FAA Removes ADI Backup Requirement for VFR aircraft installing an EFD1000 PFD

The FAA has issued policy for the EFD1000 PFD that removes the requirement for an independent backup Attitude Indicator for aircraft previously certified as VFR only.  Check with your avionics dealer regarding the specific attitude backup requirements for your aircraft.

Aspen Avionics Receives European Certification of Evolution Flight Display

Aspen Avionics announced that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) authorizations for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Displays. This approval paves the way both for installation of the EFD1000 PFDs in European aircraft (subject to aircraft-specific installation approvals), and for expansion of Aspen’s European dealer network.

Beechcraft Baron 58-series, and some Aerostar 600-and Twin Commander 500-series added to AML

Aspen Avionics has added several more Class II airplanes, including some heavier twins, to its FAA Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Displays (PFDs).  These latest additions include the Beechcraft Baron 58-series, and a subset of the Aerostar 600-and Twin Commander 500-series twin-engine airplanes.

New Aircraft Added to AML STC

Aspen Avionics has added even more aircraft to its ever expanding AML-STC. This newest revision adds the following aircraft:

  • Cessna 335, 340, 340A
  • Hawker D50, D50A, D50B, D50C, D50E, D50E-5990, E50, F50,
    G50, H50, J50
  • Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4
  • Vulcanair AP68TP 300 “Spartacus”, AP68TP 600 “Viator”
  • Hawker Beechcraft 45 (YT-34), A45 (T-34A) or (B-45), D45 (T-34B)

FAA Approved EFD1000 PFD Airplane Flight Manual Supplement (AFMS) - New Revisions

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved EFD1000 PFD AFMS is available in PDF format for download. This supplement must be attached to the FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual when the Aspen EFD1000 Electronic Flight Instrument System PRO MODEL is installed. There are two versions, one for the EFD1000 Pro PFD and one for the EFD1000 Pilot PFD.

Aspen Avionics Expands Approved Model List STC for Evolution Flight Display

Aspen Avionics has added over 200 more airplanes to its FAA Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Display (PFD). The expanded AML builds on the original AML certification granted to the company in March 2008, and authorizes installation of Aspen’s Evolution PFD into more than 600 airplane makes and models, covering the vast majority of Class I and Class II airplanes flying today.

A Special Note Regarding the Initial AML STC

Aspen Avionics’ initial AML STC from the FAA, for the EFD1000 PFDs, covers almost 400 makes and models of Class I and II airplanes. This is almost 60% of airplanes under 6,000 pounds, and the list is rapidly growing.

AOPA President Phil Boyer Receives Certified EFD1000

AOPA President Phil Boyer came to visit Aspen Avionics in Albuquerque this week, and was presented with one of the first certified EFD1000 PFDs for the AOPA Get Your Glass Sweepstakes Piper Archer.

Aspen Avionics Receives Approved Model List STC From FAA

Aspen Avionics received from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) its Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for the EFD1000 Primary Flight Display (PFD). This certification, combined with the TSO (Technical Standard Order) certification granted to the company two weeks ago, authorizes installation of Aspen’s Evolution PFD in almost 400 airplane makes and models.

Coming before the end of March 2008, this AML-STC enables Aspen Avionics to start shipping, and its dealers to start installing, Evolution Flight Display systems by March 31st, fulfilling the company’s promise to its customers.

The EFD1000 Is Now FAA Certified!

Aspen Avionics is pleased to announce that on Friday, March 14th, 2008, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted Technical Standard Order (TSO) Authorization for the Evolution Pilot and Pro Primary Flight Displays (PFDs). With certification and production authority in hand, Aspen will begin shipping EFD1000 PFD systems to its Authorized Dealers on March 31st, as planned.
