Aspen Avionics Announces Version 2.2 Evolution Software for Flight Displays
Free software upgrade includes charts, geo-referenced airport diagrams and expanded Nav Map panning functions
Lakeland, FL, April 14, 2010: Aspen Avionics, Inc. announced today that it has released Version 2.2 Evolution Software for the 1000 Pro Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), the 1000 Multi-Function Display (MFD) and 500 MFD. Version 2.2 includes the full suite of AeroNav (formerly NACO) charts and geo-referenced airport diagrams, as well as new Nav Map panning functionality and improved Info selection. The Version 2.2 Evolution Software upgrade is available to Aspen customers through its authorized dealers and will ship with all new Evolution Flight Display products.
“Many of these new product enhancements have come as a direct result of customer feedback,” said Brad Hayden, Aspen Avionics Vice President of Marketing. “We’re confident that Evolution Flight Display owners will immediately recognize the value of the new features we have included in this upgrade.”
The upgrade features the full library of the AeroNav U.S. Instrument Approach Procedure charts, Departure Procedure charts, Standard Terminal Arrival Route charts, and geo-referenced airport diagrams. Users can zoom and pan with an easy-to-use interface. Geo-referenced airport diagrams display aircraft position, increasing situational awareness while maneuvering on the ground.
The new upgrade also includes improvements to the Nav Map panning function with the addition of a targeting cursor that instantly displays data while scrolling over the navigation map. As the cursor scrolls across the map, the pilot can quickly see information such as terrain elevation, navigation aids, airspace and airport identifiers displayed on the screen. Additionally, bearing, distance and ETE to the cursor’s location on the map relative to the aircraft’s position is displayed in real time.
Aspen has also made improvements to its knob-activated Info selection interface that has been so positively received by Evolution customers since the feature was introduced. Soft key filtering options allow the pilot to toggle airport information, special use airspace, ATC, navigation aids and TFRs on or off the screen, making it easier to cycle through, declutter, and select detailed information within the display area.
“The ability to get detailed information in multiple ways—from the targeting cursor or scrolling the menus—is another example of Aspen’s flexible design philosophy. We’ve created an interface that provides multiple paths to the same data and functionality,” said Hayden. “We build a product that works the way a pilot thinks it should, rather than force them into our idea of how a system should work.”
Subscription updates for the charts and airport diagrams will be available through our new partner, Seattle Avionics Software. One-time subscriptions will cost $99, and annual subscriptions will cost $299. There will be no additional activation fee from Aspen Avionics for this capability. Availability of charts for outside the United States is scheduled for fourth quarter of 2010.
