Customer Alert: Update for Customers with 500/1000 MFD and EWR50 Installations
August 14, 2012
Dear Aspen customer:
This is an update to the previously released memo regarding a known issue with the EWR50 Evolution Weather Receiver interface that can cause EFD1000 MFDs (Multi-function Displays) and 500 MFDs to reboot when the number of TFRs exceeds the EFD design capacity of 100.
This condition does not present itself frequently, however over the course of the last month, numerous fire related and political campaign related TFRs have exceeded this limit.
Aspen engineers have issued a fix that will be incorporated into the next Evolution Software release, version 2.6. FAA approval for this new software release is expected within the next two weeks.
Only installations with an MFD connected to an EWR50 will reboot, and then only if the NavMap or TFR pages are selected.
The issue does not affect Primary Flight Displays or 1000 MFDs that are in reversion mode nor MFDs that are not connected to an EWR50.
If the high number of TFRs persists, you can temporarily avoid the reboot issue by opening the EWR50 circuit breaker.
Thank you for your continued support and rest assured that we are continually monitoring and improving the performance of our flight displays and related components.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your Aspen authorized dealer or us if you need any additional assistance.
