Customer Alert: Customers with 500/1000 MFD and EWR50 Installations
July 5, 2012
Dear Aspen customer:
This memo is to alert you that there is a known issue with the EWR50 Evolution Weather Receiver interface that can cause EFD1000 MFDs (Multi-function Displays) and 500 MFDs to reboot when the number of TFRs exceeds the EFD design capacity of 100.
On July 3rd and 4th there were an unusually high number of active TFRs due to VIP travel, wildfires, and fireworks displays (102), resulting in several reports of MFDs rebooting.
The reboot symptom will subside when the number of TFRs drops to normal levels, however Aspen engineering will continue to evaluate other possible XM susceptibilities and add additional protection in the forthcoming Evolution Software version 2.6 update.
Only installations with an MFD connected to an EWR50 will reboot, and then only if the NavMap or TFR pages are selected.
The issue does not affect Primary Flight Displays or 1000 MFDs that are in reversion mode nor MFDs that are not connected to an EWR50.
If the high number of TFRs persists, you can temporarily avoid the reboot issue by opening the EWR50 circuit breaker.
Thank you for your continued support and rest assured that we are continually monitoring and improving the performance of our flight displays and related components.
Please don't hesitate to contact us or your authorized Aspen dealer if you need any additional assistance.
