Aspen Avionics Announces Enhancements to Evolution Flight Display Autopilot Integration
STC ammendment approves autopilot coupling in MFD reversion mode
Friedrichshafen, Germany, April 18, 2012: Aspen Avionics announced today the approval of an amendment to the Evolution Flight Display AML STC authorizing autopilot nav coupling to the 1000 MFD while in reversion mode. FAA approval on this interface allows Aspen to deliver on a frequently requested enhancement and ensures consistent guidance on installing this capability.
“This expanded autopilot integration adds another layer of redundancy and safety to an already robust system,” says Brad Hayden, Aspen’s Vice President of Marketing. “Aspen’s MFD reversion mode is a unique offering in the market and is a key element of the multi-layered safety architecture built into the Evolution system.”
Aspen’s Evolution 2000 and 2500 systems offer redundant solid-state AHRS and Air Data computers, redundant backup battery power, optional redundant emergency GPS, and independent LCD displays. The 2000 and 2500 systems also come standard with full PFD capability built into the MFD. This STC amendment adds a new layer of redundancy, enabling these systems to continue to provide autopilot coupling, both lateral and vertical, after a failure of the primary EFIS.
Hayden adds, “Managing an in-flight emergency is stressful. This new approval ensures that Aspen operators are not subject to the increased workload of hand flying at the precise moment that they experience a system emergency. Aspen’sunique Evolution System architecture is the only certified General Aviation EFIS to provide this capability.”
All currently supported autopilots are included in this approval. Customers are encouraged to discuss this and other installation options with an authorized Aspen dealer.
