Aspen Avionics Adds New Interactive Areas to Website
Aspen Board member Phil Boyer pens column, hosts new Aspen pilot forum
Oshkosh, WI, July 27, 2010: Owners and future owners of the Evolution Flight Display System will soon have new sources of product information and online venues to interact with each other on the company’s website. Aspen announced today that former AOPA President and current Aspen Board Member Phil Boyer has launched a column posted to the Aspen website where he will share his experiences flying with the Evolution Flight Display. Additionally, Boyer will moderate an online Aspen pilot forum, also hosted on the Aspen site, which will provide a venue for visitors to ask questions and exchange views.
“The transition to flying with a glass cockpit is easy, and the capabilities of the Aspen Evolution System are enormous. Combined with existing panel avionics, the array of data presented to a pilot is almost limitless,” said Boyer. “The last 14 years of my over 40 years of general aviation flying has been with glass displays. My intent is to share experiences and present scenarios on how to get the most from this unique equipment; assisting both those familiar and new to this technology.”
Boyer’s column, titled the Evolution Cockpit Chronicles, will feature regular posts about his time flying behind the Evolution System in his Aspen-equipped Bonanza. The Evolution Cockpit Chronicles will include Boyer’s insights into how to transition smoothly from steam gauge to glass instruments, tips and techniques for using the Evolution displays and his overall reflections on being a general aviation pilot flying a modern, glass display system. Readers of Evolution Cockpit Chronicles will be able to add their own comments to Boyer’s column.

In addition, an online discussion forum for Aspen pilots, moderated by Boyer, will launch within the next few weeks. With more than three thousand airplanes flying with the Evolution Flight Display System, the company feels the time is right to have a place on the site where customers can freely exchange their tips and experiences. Just like the Aspen Customer Gallery where Evolution owners post their installation and early flying experiences, the Aspen pilot forum will be monitored but not edited.
“Aspen Avionics has always striven to create a home and sense of community for our customers,” said Aspen’s Vice President of Marketing Brad Hayden. “Our customers know and respect Phil, so he is the ideal pilot to share his opinions since they already trust him. We look forward to Phil’s postings as well as comments and opinions among the Aspen pilot community.”
Aspen President John Uczekaj will continue writing his blog, unique with his viewpoint of being both Aspen’s president and a new pilot and aircraft owner. His blog may be accessed at www.aspenavionics.wordpress.com. Uczekaj took his blog’s readers through a detailed description of the installation process (complete with a glitch or two) in his Diamond DA40, as well as his first flight and his first long trip from Albuquerque to Sun ‘n Fun and other flying experiences.
“We want our website to be an informative and enjoyable gathering spot for our customers,” added Hayden. “Phil’s column and the Aspen pilot forum will enable our website to be a place where both new and prospective customers will want to gather.” About Aspen Avionics, Inc.
